Ignite A Passion for Spanish
If you ask a lot of adults what they remember about learning a language at school, there’s a high chance they’ll mention endless vocabulary tests, copying sentences from the board and remembering little more than how to say how many siblings they have, where they went on holiday and if they have any pets. At Learnable, we think there’s a better way to introduce kids to Spanish.
For us, language lessons are about communication. We want children to leave the classroom feeling as though they’ve actually used the language – even if it’s only a short conversation with a classmate, or building on a previous sentence they’ve mastered – and not just having learned a word or two. It’s this feeling of success that encourages them to keep learning, and that’s what we want to encourage.
Spanish PPA Cover That Kids Actually Enjoy
Learning another language can feel daunting if everything is introduced at once, which is why we explore new words and phrases gradually. Children hear them regularly, practise them in different situations and come back to them later, often without realising how much they’ve remembered. There’s no rush to move on before they’re ready. By revisiting familiar language throughout the year, children become more comfortable speaking aloud, listening to others and understanding how everyday conversations fit together.
Though knowing individual words is useful, language only really starts to make sense when children begin joining those words together. With Learnable, they start using simple grammar without it feeling like a grammar lesson. They’ll ask questions, answer them, describe familiar things and express simple opinions, all whilst developing their listening and speaking skills.
Over time, little by little, Spanish becomes more familiar.

Constantly Building On What Pupils Already Know
One of the biggest challenges schools often face is that learning a language can become repetitive. Children cover colours one year, then colours again the next, and maybe even for a third time as they make their way from one school year to the next. Our curriculum has been designed differently.
Each year group follows six connected units, and every stage builds on the previous one. Across primary school, pupils steadily expand their vocabulary, conversational skills, listening ability and understanding of grammar. The previous learning isn’t forgotten, it’s used as the starting point for what’s next.
Spanish PPA Cover for Primary Schools
Spanish is one of several subjects we deliver through our PPA cover service. Schools don’t need to produce lesson plans or organise resources before we arrive, as everything is prepared in advance and follows the same structured programme throughout the year. This makes it easy for pupils to pick up where they left off each week.
